Increased Traffic Expected During International Balloon Fiesta

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) would like to advise all drivers to expect increased traffic volumes around Albuquerque during the upcoming Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which will take place from Oct. 5 through Oct. 13, 2024.

With tourists and visitors traveling for this large event, the NMDOT anticipates more drivers than usual on Interstate 25 throughout the city. Drivers traveling through the I-25 Improved; Comanche to Montgomery Project area should plan for additional delays. The NMDOT and project team are not closing any additional travel lanes during the event. Three lanes of traffic will remain open both northbound and southbound on I-25.

Travel times in the area could increase due to the increased Balloon Fiesta traffic. The NMDOT recommends motorists to allow for extra travel time to account for the additional congestion.
